Anna has been feeling ill since yesterday afternoon. We attempted to go to swim lessons for the first time. She threw a huge fit, kicking and screaming, so we left early. We actually weren't signed up for that class anyway thanks to the lovely staff at the Y. They screwed up and signed us up for a different class starting on a different day but told us to be there yesterday. Anyway I didn't feel bad for taking her home early since I knew she wouldn't be coming back the next day.
She looked tired on the way home (about 4:30). When we got home she fell asleep on my lap. I didn't want her sleeping that late or she would never go to bed at night so we woke her up and we went back to the Y so Nathan and I could work out. I got to run but Nathan was stuck in the daycare the whole time. Anna & Cole both pitched fits. We got home and Anna walked in and laid down on her stomach on the ottoman and fell sound to sleep before I even walked in the door. We couldn't wake her so we just moved her to the couch so we could keep an eye on her.
Around 7:30 I woke her up to check her temperature- 102. Gave her some Motrin and let her go back to sleep. I slept with her so at midnight I checked her temperature again. This time 103! Called our pediatrician and their phone was busy for an hour (at midnight!). Gave her some more Motrin. She fidgeted all night. Woke up at 8:00 and her temp was 101.5. Called the dr. got an appt. Temp an hour later was 102. She wasn't in pain (so she says) so I held off on the Motrin so the dr. could get a true reading on her temp when we got there. Her temp went down to 100.8. They did a flu, strep and blood count test. All were negative. Basically the doctor (not our regular pedi) said there was no explanation. I'm aggravated because it doesn't seem that a perfectly healthy child should have a fever of 103.
Anyway so I get mom of the year because on the way home I got them ice cream for lunch. I promised it to Anna (not realizing what time is was) when she was getting her finger pricked and squeezed for blood. Oh well she ate it and that was the first thing she has eaten since she ate half an apple at 3:00 yesterday. After we grocery shopped we came home and ate a proper lunch so I guess I shouldn't be too hard on myself. I hope she feels better soon.
