Stolen Identity

Nathan had his identity stolen and it's all my fault. I'm mad as hell about it but unfortunately now the only thing I can do is tell you about it and hope you don't fall victim as well.

A few days ago I signed on to our bank account. I signed in as usual but was kicked back because I didn't put his social security number and atm pin in as asked. I thought it was strange because it's never asked me to do this before but honestly I thought because Wellsfargo and Wachovia just merged that it was something to do with making sure everyone was signed in correctly. As I logged in I thought "I've always been told you should never give your ATM pin." At that point it was too late. So I went on about my business.

Fast forward to the next day. We realize we are having a problem with our computer. Our crappy antivirus software keeps messing up and nothing is working right. Nathan called Microsoft yesterday and they were a load of no help.

Yesterday two credits of approximately 13 cents each were added to our account. Today when I looked at our account I thought that was strange because it was from a company I had never heard of epassporte.com. I looked them up and brought it up to Nathan. I called Wellsfargo because if someone could add money to our account without us knowing who it was then I would assume they could take it out without our permission as well. Well I was right. Our only option was to change our bank account number which means we have to change every automatic withdrawl we have (mortgage, car payment, insurance etc.).

So Nathan calls this epassporte.com and asks what they are all about. Turns out they are kind of like paypal. They are an online payment "thing" (the word escapes me at the moment). Anyway Nathan threatens to turn them in if they don't put a hold on this account. So they stop the account. Nathan ends up getting the email address of the person who is doing this. Of course that amounts to nothing really. Anyway bface76@yahoo.com you suck!

Back to my story. A light goes off in my head that this happened a few days ago when logging on to wellsfargo.com and I tell Nathan who then tells the person on the phone. Long story short wellsfargo.com did not ask me for the SSN or PIN. Someone put a virus on our computer that tracked out cookies then wrote a code for a "new" wellsfargo website that looked identical to the other one except that it asked for the SSN and PIN. Once I gave it to them they had all they needed. Anyway I'm pissed off that this has happened. Nathan has to deal with all of this now because it has to do with SSNs and I can't talk to anyone about his SSN. We have to change all our account info as well as contact the credit reporting bureaus to notify them of what happened. Anyway we will forever be worried that this asshole has our info and that he could potentially ruin us or at least make it really hard for us. So beware of this and don't let it happen to you.

This does stink! Thankfully, you caught on to this scam quickly.Thank you for sharing...it does help remind us to be careful because unfortunately there are a lot of people out there just waiting to take advantage of innocent people!

I gave away Donlee's identity away last year when I was preggo. I got an email saying there fraud on our account and to logon immediately and change our password. The link took me to a perfect "fake" website where I entered our login, which gave them access. I followed it up with a phone call to see if there was anything else I needed to do, only to find out it was phony. They had already set up an external account and we attempting to transfer our money to that account. It was awful!! We too had the email address and Donlee sent the guy a nasty email and threatened to leave me if I ever did that again...ha! We'll never make that mistake again. Change all your passwords and report the fraud on experian or equifax so they can flag your account in case they try to open credit cards, etc.
